Bomb shelters · Scandinavia and the Nordics
Bomb shelter ventilation and CBRN air filtration
We supply filtration units, CBRN filters and all accessories for new and existing shelters across the Nordic countries – sized, installed and documented. Based in Norway.
The solution
Everything a shelter needs for clean air
Filtration units
FIRBACH units for 10 to several thousand people, with electric motor and hand crank for operation during power cuts.
CBRN filters
COLPRO filters, filter class U15 (> 99.9995 %), passed NATO AEP-54.
Upgrades
Inspection, filter replacement and unit replacement in older shelters.
Free sizing
We size your system free of charge based on occupancy and room.
How it works
Multi-stage filtration and overpressure
Outside air passes a pre-filter, a HEPA/ULPA filter and activated carbon before the fan blows it into the room. The overpressure stops contaminated air from leaking in through doors and penetrations.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about shelter ventilation
What does a bomb shelter ventilation system consist of?
A typical system has an air intake with gas-tight valves and blast protection, a pre-filter for dust, a particle filter (HEPA/ULPA), a CBRN filter with activated carbon, a fan with electric motor and hand crank, an airflow meter and an overpressure valve. The overpressure keeps contaminated air from leaking in.
How do I choose the right size?
The system is sized by the number of people the shelter must protect and by the room volume. Standard units cover 10, 20, 60 and 120 people, and FIRBACH X expands modularly to several thousand. We size it free of charge.
Does it work during a power cut?
Yes. FIRBACH 100, 300 and X can be driven by hand crank or controlled manually if the power fails, so the shelter keeps receiving filtered air.
Which standards do the filters meet?
COLPRO filters are filter class U15 with over 99.9995 % separation and have passed NATO AEP-54. The solutions also follow STANAG 4447/4639, the European civil defence standard for NBC filters and EN 1822 (EPA, HEPA and ULPA).
Can you upgrade an older shelter?
Yes. Many older shelters have outdated filters and units. We inspect and assess the condition, replace filters and replace units.
Do you deliver to Sweden, Denmark and Finland?
Yes. We deliver across the Nordic countries and have completed deliveries worldwide together with our partners.
Does a CBRN filter protect against carbon monoxide?
No. CBRN filters remove chemical, biological and radioactive agents as well as dust and aerosols, but do not protect against carbon monoxide (CO).
Who is ABC-filter?
ABC-filter is owned by STEWA AS in Fredrikstad, Norway, with more than 25 years of experience in the defence and security industry. The products are developed and made by FIRBACH, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of shelter filtration equipment.
